Couple Killed In Kaduna By Unknown Gunmen

The brutal murder of a middle aged man, identified as Asa Ibrahim by unknown gunmen in Kafanchan, headquarters of Jemaa Local Government Area of Kaduna state almost resulted into a major crisis on Monday but for the timely intervention of the Police and Soldiers drafted to the area.
While the natives maintained that  the couple were killed by the yet to be identified assailants,  the state Police commissioner, Mr Olufemi Adenaike told Channels Television that only one person was killed on his way to the farm, an incident which he said prompted the  villagers  to go on rampage to protest his death.
He said the protesters comprising mostly women and youth destroyed some places of worship and the Kafachan campus of the State University, adding that more Policemen and Soldiers have been drafted to the community to maintain law and order.
Banks and other commercial activities were closed today in Kafanchan because of the tension.
However, the state Governor, Muktar Yero  Yero called on residents of Kafanchan  and indeed the entire state to remain calm and law abiding over the security breach that occurred in the area on Monday.
In a statement signed by his spokesman,  Ahmed Maiyaki,  Governor  Yero urged people in the area to shun rumours and any act capable of disrupting peace and order as security agencies have already commenced investigation into the matter and will soon apprehend those found culpable.
The governor while asking security agencies to provide maximum surveillance in Kafanchan and environs towards ensuring the maintenance of law and order, also directed the state bureaus of both Islamic and Christian affairs to commence the process of sensitizing followers of the two faiths in the area and engage religious leaders on the need to continue to peacefully co-exist as one people.
